Check your favorite artist, think about their method.... its surprising what can be achieved .... Degas is a good place to start....
Remember to start with the best Pastel paper you can find, I use Senellier. Then start your Pastel art working from Dark to Light. Pastels is all about Layering. You can also use a variety of different strokes. Below I have simply outlined the drawing after its complete
